In Search of Da Cat
A personal journey to find the legendary Mickey
Dora, inventor of the myth of the rebel surfer. The director, Ovidio
Salazar, picks up the trail of ëDa Catí in Malibu and
takes us through France to Africa. His is a search for a simpler
life, a lost youth in the California of the sixties. Along the way
we encounter an assortment of surfers, characters and casualties.
Da Cat was a role model and philosopher, where have his ideas taken
him? By the end of the sixties commerce had come to the beach. What
happened to Da Cat, did he too sell out or is he still out there
waiting for the perfect wave?
"An elegiac film poem to a lost era" (Dathi O'Sunnaig,
Donegal Democrat)
